The name was inspired by the sound of Joe Cocker’s ‘With a little help from my friends’ album.

The White Gospel are a 5 piece based in Essex, fronted by French-English singer/songwriter David Arscott.
His writing seems to reflect the emotional melancholy of suburban life.
From the word on the street to the crushing wheels of the rat race.
The streets of London’s neighbouring county Essex, provide the inspiration for the prose
and a backdrop to the cinematic songs.

Consisting of an acrobatic voice; the shimmer and twang of the telecaster guitar
the solid jazz-like rhythm and fundamental elements the organ and piano,
TWG deliver an altogether more vintage sound with a heartfelt, well studied approach to their special brand of music.

Sighting bands as eclectic as
Love, The Icicle Works, The Smiths, Rufus Wainright, The Czars, Grant Lee Buffalo, Magazine, Bill Withers,
Jeff Buckley, Echo & the Bunnymen, Aretha Franklin, Talk Talk, My Morning Jacket, Northern Soul, Coldplay,
Richard Ashcroft and The Beatles as definite sources of inspiration for the writing;
the band stitch together a tapestry of these colours and styles onto Arscott’s canvas
of classic, hook laden, melodiously rich songs.

Not bothered by trends and fads in modern music, TWG should appeal to a much wider demographic;
a discerning audience in love with music – lost and waiting to be found, or simply hoping to BE lost in something special.
With hints of the sixties, seventies and tasteful parts of the eighties,
this band makes a relevant noise with some unique, beautiful art.

Much of the attractive quality with this band lies in the variety of styles they display and certainly their
ability to execute whatever they like without having ever felt the need to explain it.
This reflects the fact that The White gospel focuses their energies around
simply writing classic material that they would like to hear, in the belief that there is no reason why their
songs can’t sit next to any other established act or artist on the shelves of
anybody’s eclectic and colorful record collection. This has never been said in arrogance,
just experience and belief, having been collectively writing and playing for 20 years.

The releases so far – two ep’s ‘Daybeauty ep’ and ‘Lift off ep’
coupled with the album ‘A Northern Light’ reveal that TWG whisper in the rafters and bellow in the street
with the evocative language needed to tell their tales - described as ‘tender epic music’- from the gutter to the stars.
